Royal York Hotel York

Station Road, York, North Yorkshire, YO24 1AA

The Royal York Hotel York occupies a fantastic position adjacent to York Railway Station in the beautiful and historic city of York. It is a gorgeous example of Victorian design with an impressive symmetrical exterior, an ornate ironwork staircase and an intriguing electric doorbell system combining buzzers and moving discs. The hotel was built as a railway hotel just a year after the newly opened York Railway Station came into being in 1877. The station was described as ‘a monument to extravagance’. It was fitting that the Royal Station Hotel (as the Royal York was first known) should appear soon after, made from locally sourced yellow Scarborough brick and Tadcaster stone.

The Royal York Hotel York was originally intended as a stopping point for northern aristocracy and wealthy business people travelling to the area, but it is now very much a family-friendly city centre hotel. The five acres of gardens include spaces for children to play, including the opportunity to hone their chess skills on the giant outdoor chess set.

Could you please inform us of the parking costs of the onsite car park. My wife has some mobility problems, so we might need to park nearby for our proposed 3 day stay.

    Thank You.
